Ok ok...a real post
Life is going well for me...except for the small amount of work being done on my masters...fortunately I've finished debugging my code (at least for a while), and I've moved onto better, more interesting things, so I should be able to get more done. By better more interesting things I mean more pure math and matrix calculations! muahahahah! :-S
ergh...ya, it's very mathy, and not very applied, at least not for the moment. I have a bit of theory to work out before I can begin to apply anything to something realistic. And honestly, the math is not THAT boring. Some of the algebraic concepts and their proofs are quite interesting actually! :-)
Things with CC are going pretty well...her b-day was last week and there was a climbing/partying event thrown by her friends that was really nice, last Sunday. They got her the lead climbing course that she's been signed up for as a gift! That matches perfectly with what I got her, which was a grigri belay device!
The weather has finally turned sunny and warm, and so I've pulled out my road bike! Yeeeeehaw! I rode my bike to work for the first time this season today, and does it ever feel good. No more silly waiting at the station for the bus! I also got some fancy schmancy new mountain bikin shoes which I have yet to try out...they were $100 off, how could I resist?!
Speaking of waiting for buses, yesterday I had to leave work early to pick up my students' lab notebooks for marking, at the downtown campus. So I waited for the bus, took it to Downsview station only to realize that I'd left my wallet at UTIAS! argh. I waited 10 minutes for the bus to go again northward (the same bus I'd taken from UTIAS) and went back. I got my wallet, and then again waited for the bus southward (I was hoping it would be the same driver, but alas he was not that fast). Finally I managed to get downtown, 2 hours after I left UTIAS, only to be told that the professor from whom I was to pick up the notebooks wasn't there and hadn't been all day! ARGH!!! What a waste of time.
I'm also getting pretty excited about my upcoming trip to Kentucky, easter weekend. I've been practising lead climbing a LOT more, and have managed to do a 5.10b on lead pretty easily! woohoo! I've also been reading my climbing book a lot...learning how to do all the things I need to do outside.
So what do people think of my photos? I've heard Peter's Garage is getting pretty boring...I guess I have to start looking for more creative ways of photographing it. Should be fun! Last week I was wandering Kensington with CC and we noticed a really cute white cat, and she started petting it. I had a digital camera with me, so I started taking pictures, and then I noticed there was some woman with a professional looking video camera also taking some footage...when I showed her the pictures I'd taken she said she'd be interested in using the photo for the proposal she's making for a documentary about stray cats, and then if the proposal is successful, she is interested in more photos! My first journalistic assignment! Interesting, no? :-)
That's it for now...ciaociao

This, that, and the other
I guess it's been a while since I actually wrote anything, as someone pointed out yesterday, so I guess I should fill you in on what's been going on in my life.

Subway Sightings
I barely got this shot....I had to adjust the exposure at the last second so it wouldn't be too dark! And I think I was at 1/15 seconds, so I'm surprised the stationary things are as sharp as they are.
This funny looking dog felt quite at home on the subway, lounging around and eyeing the other passengers to make sure they weren't doing anything they shouldn't be in his car.Monday, March 27, 2006

New nickname
POST NUMBER 99!
Anyway, besides announcing that this is my 99th post, not too much is going on. My life is getting busier as the summer approaches, seeing as the biking season is starting soon (just over a month til my first race!) and also, outdoor climbing is starting up. In addition, as some may know MG and I are back together, and things are going quite well...so that obviously takes up a lot of time. And school of course. booo. I hope I finish this thing one day!
Last weekend was fun...friday night I climbed and watched Bruce Almighty, a quite funny movie except for the badly done sappy parts. Then on Saturday I spun, brought my bike to the shop, bought some shoes at the shop, and then went and ate with some friends from undergrad, and then spent the rest of the evening with MG. Sunday was spent lolling about until about 4 when I eventually made it to the rock climbing gym. I've started lead climbing again, which is somewhat scary but something I have to get used to, because....
I"M GOING TO KENTUCKY TO CLIMB! :-D
Tomorrow is MG's b-day. Since we're both crazy busy tomorrow, she and I will be celebrating thursday instead. I'm planning on making her dinner then taking her to a movie that she mentioned she wants to see, or going Swing dancing...what do you think? dancing or movie? Also...I dont' know what to get her! A climbing shirt possibly....I need ideas, and fast!

I really like my coffee shop, and walking there and back.
The tree was making neat shadow figures on the ugliest elementary school on earth, thus drastically improving its aesthetic appeal. The school is unfortunately the first thing we see every morning as it's across the street from my house. It could use a facelift. Or maybe just a razing, and then reconstruction in a different form.
Kensington Market is always full of odd things. Including people throwing out their colourful art. I think it was a work worshipping the flying spaghetti monster and its flying angel-hair pasta monster minions. The Downsview Boredom and Frustration Generation Plant

low hum....grrrrr
GRRRRRRRRRRR.
even the pitter patter of rain on my sunroof or music in my earphones doesn't really drown it out....
update: it is some kind of big generator/pump at the end of my street. I've even tried inserting ear plugs....to no avail. Now it's all I hear, since apparently my earplugs are invisible to that frequency of sound. aaaaaaah

Strength
And now we live apart and all alone.
Is distance 'tween us now what must be done
So that together we may be again?
When she writes me, a feeling of disgust
And great affection, both at the same time,
Fill up my heart and head, and then I find,
That answering becomes a thing of trust.
For now I know for sure that I should not
Write whatsoever to her comments made.
Since time to heal may be of quite great length,
And also for the pain to be forgot,
I need to find a way to help her wage,
This war inside which asks for greater strength.
A Programmer's Life
And in those lines do headaches often lurk.
But when perchance your code decides to work,
The greatest joy is there for you to gain.
My compiler problems....
From lines obtained from someone else's file.
Compiling bugs were added by the mile,
But I, code monkey, know from whence they came.

Living with the 'rents
so I got home this morning and all hell had broken loose because apparently I'm having too much fun in my life for my mom to understand. And I forgot to put 7 or 8 bowls and plates into the dishwasher before I left. And apparently I don't go shopping enough. And/or participate in anything at home.
The only true part is the 7 or 8 dishes. I help enough at home I think. I think my parents (read Mom mostly) feel mad that I am enjoying my life for some reason...that I have lots of friends to go and do things with...and that I have somewhere else to sleep rather than staying at home. It's always whenever I get back from MG's place Saturday morning that she gets upset. I often then leave pretty quickly to go and lead my spinning class, which I'm sure doesn't help much.
But...I guess I just have to live with it and work a bit harder...since i'd rather spend my money on fun and bikes than on rent!

Not Enough ___
She brought me cookies for Mardi Gras...Left them in a box sitting on the morning paper on my front step, and my mom picked it up thinking the paper person had left it for us. Then the message inside said 'Happy Fat Tuesday, XO, ___ '. I was so surprised, it made my day. She said she brought it cuz she wasn't going to see me that day.
Now I'm off to TA....blguh....so sleepy today, I don't know why. I've had about 9 hours of sleep!
