News from Me

sososo, not too much going on....having a good time as usual, running out of money, and still wondering what the hell I'm going to do with my life. The bicycle tour guide is still a very interesting option, at least for a few years, but I may decide to begin with another season of skiing in the French Alps.

Another idea that's been brought to my attention is the aerodynamic/hydrodynamic design of sports equipment...such as swim suits, skiing suits, speed skating suits, bicycles, bicycles helmets...or even the base of skis, for sliding on snow. This might be a great idea for me...combining what I've learned in my masters and my interest in sports.

Anyway, who knows.

A new recurring post topic: Funny Spam! Volume 1.

As a way to make my blog a bit more interesting, I've been mildly thinking of things to add on a regular basis. The first idea was of course the funny words, in a very informal kind of way. While I may still put these once in a while, I feel that it is a somewhat limiting form of expression. I think that a Funny Spam section would be a bit more fulfilling! And so, to inaugurate this new section, here's my first funny spam, received Jan. 27 2006:

Title: UPSET BCOZ OF UR SHORT DlCK? LONGER 2" WITH THIS fly

purpose prison disappoint he corner? already profession carefully? gym next teach force evening thus.
the letters few benefit rich added. pride she nothing.
purpose latter fire social light beautiful.

What does it all mean? I have struggled with understanding this great piece of spamerature. Firstly, could a fly possibly help with one's feelings of inadequacy? 'Purpose latter fire social light beautiful'? Does this mean that the greatest importance of a fire is to light social events beautifully? The wonders of spam never cease. Stay tuned for more, and please, comment on your interpretations!

Ski trip!!

Hola!

Last weekend I went on a most great fantastical fun trip to Blue Mountain for a weekend of skiing and socializing. As an executive of the U of T Dance Club, ___ invited me to the annual UTDC Ski Trip. They had rented a chalet for 18 people (ahem, more like 25 or 30 in this case), 3 minutes drive from the slopes. This would be the first time that ___ and I would be together for a more extended period of time (almost 3 days). I didn't quite know what to expect.

It started rather poorly Friday, since the drivers had told ___ and me to be ready by 5:30 and 4, respectively (this is because ___ was in Concorde at work, and I was downtown where the drivers were). I was picked up at 4 from my house. Then we went to pick up the next person, only to find that they were still grocery shopping, and had only just begun! I could have done so much more work and/or waxed my skis! I was slightly annoyed, but not really too frustrated (as I'm not the type of person that gets frustrated by these kinds of things, and it gave me time to go to the licquor store), however ___ who was waiting around at work for 1 hour extra was extremely annoyed, and I can see why. It was the shittiest time management on the part of some of the others that I've ever seen. Anyway, we finally picked her up, after she'd been driven by one of her coworkers to a Starbucks somewhere closer to the highway on which we would be. The drive up was uneventful, except for the not-so-fast fast-food we had at Taco Bell...took them 30 minutes to make a few tacos from meat in a bag. And it gave me gas and stomach discomfort for the rest of the weekend. I hate Taco Hell/Smell!

After that the organizer decided that she should plan rooms for us, as well as assign a girls and boys bathroom. Totally ridiculous and unnecessary. We are not in kindergarten!! Needless to say, the plan was not followed.

The rest of the weekend went by well, I think. We got to ski til we were tired and cold, and the food and company was great...after an initial awkwardness. For some reason I felt really strange around ___ most of Saturday...I think I felt like there was some kind of pressure on me or something, to always be around her and chatting. Conversation seemed strained. Then finally, Saturday night after dinner, a nap and a little cuddling (and some red wine!), I realized that it was completely unnecessary. We were both here to relax and chat with other people and make new friends, and I didn't have to stick to her like glue. From then on it was great, and our conversations began flowing as they usually do. We skied, and had a great time Sunday all day and evening.

Young Boys and Hangovers

Last night my sister's friend's parents who are in town visiting from Vancouver invited us to eat at one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto, called Messis. The food is great, and the service is...entertaining. The waiter is this incredibly gay guy who plays it up to amuse us, and get better tips I'm sure. Anyway, my sister's friend's mom was really enjoying that, and playing along. Eventually, it was time for coffee, and he brought the cream and milk to the table saying 'Milk in tall, cream in short....milk in tall, cream in short' so that we wouldn't forget. Our friend, being in a playful mood and having had several drinks by this time (beginning of course with some pre-drinks at our house) responded with 'Milk in tall, cream in short, ta ta ta, ta ta ta'..and although this in itself was not that funny, she continued with

'That's what happens when you spend all afternoon playing with young boys'.....

....HAHAHAHA, it was made especially funny because the gay waiter was still completely within earshot, and had a scandalized look and comment!

She later went on to explain that she had been playing with some nephews or something who are both less than two years old, and that singing them little songs keeps them entertained. Anyway, talk about saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

What with all the scotch, red wine, and ENORMOUS amounts of food, I have unfortunately fallen victim to a food and wine hangover. Please note, these have nothing to do with playing with young boys.

More political comments

I just read a couple more articles about the Emerson Defection, and two things occurred to me. First of all, not only is this a betrayal of his own constituents for his own personal gain, but it is also an indication that the democratic process in this country is messed up. This move can only discourage young voters, especially in his riding but probably across the country, from going to vote, since it may seem like it doesn't really matter who they elect anyway! ARGH.

The second point I thought of is that maybe this is good for the Liberals in the future, in the sense that the Conservatives have immediately started going against their promises on their first day in office. They promised to create an elected senate, and to implement some ethics laws (or something) preventing defections of the sort we've seen in the last two years (Stronach, Emerson). Harper appointed a non-elected politician to the Senate, just so he could put him in cabinet, and lured a new Liberal MP across the floor. Great move Harper! Way to show us that you're not really what you said you were in your election campaign! With any luck you will screw up even more in the next six months and alienate most of the population of Canada, and we can have you out of there in less than two years!

This really is a great thing for the NDP. Liberals can't be trusted, and now neither can the Conservatives. So far the NDP are the only ones that haven't screwed up big time.

Foo Fighters In your honor

Why is it that I listen to the Foo Fighters In Your Honor album when I'm feeling depressed or confused? I had hundreds of songs in my play list today, those ones included, but I just felt like listening to that one album. Does anyone else find those songs depressing? Or maybe I can relate to the lyrics? The melodies are so nice too.

Winter = Spring?

This is the other thing I had to say. Finally we have some real weather here in the Big Smoke. Winter has finally arrived, AFTER groundhog day. It has been the warmest summe...I mean winter in years, and at last there are decently low temps and snow on the ground. Bring on the snow, I say! Let there be skiing!

Speaking of Groundhog Day, although I don't believe a stupid yummy tasting groundhog can predict the weather, I do know that Bill Murray starred in a great movie about it, that was on TV the other day. Awesome flick. Totally unexpected. We calculated that he must have been living the same day for at least 4 or 5 years. (STOP READING NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!). Bill's character Phil killed himself innumerable times, and learned to play the piano professionally. He learned to be friendly and kind, and eventually managed to get the girl of his dreams...in ONE DAY! Way to go Phil!

Liberal = Conservative?

In the news yesterday, Stephen Harper unveiled his new cabinet, and guess what, it's got a Liberal in it! Well, at least he was a Liberal until he defected because he got a cushy job offer from the Tories. David Emerson is now a Conservative MP. WTF!! There's gotta be a rule against this! In his riding of Vancouver Kingsway it was a really close race between the NDP and the Liberals...the Conservatives were no where close. And little did they know that they would end up a conservative riding! The people there must feel even more betrayed than I do! This really goes to show that the Liberals really can't be trusted. I am so glad that I voted for the NDP. (*&#ing liberals.

I had something else to write but I forget what it is now. I have quite a lot of other stuff on my mind at the moment. :-S

I've been a bad bad blogger

Sitting here listening to the Beatles (Here Comes the Sun) and various other random songs, I am trying to remember what happened to me this past weekend and last week. It's hard! It seems like I have a lot of stuff going on in my life, which means remembering all the things that happened is tough. ( poor me eh? :-P ). I guess I will start with last Thursday, because that's as far as I can remember.

(Now it's Dave Matthews Band...Two Step. I like shuffle!)

Last Thursday after our Swing lesson, on our way back to ___'s place at Dominion, I was told that we were having a Candelmas celebration at my house (we are not religious, we just really like Crepes, and that's the tradition at Candelmas in France :-D ). So all of a sudden ___ was coming to have a meal with my family and parents! I made a comment to ___ about that, but she told me 'aaaaah, stop, don't build it up any more!' heehee. It went very well, I think my family likes her, she even participated in our usually potty-humour family dinner discussions, which I think probably amused my parents :-)

Friday night was climbing and then I think I went somewhere else to drink some beer...ah yes, I went to the Madi with some friends from undergrad, in particular a few that aren't usually in town, who were really good friends with ___ in undergrad, from whom I heard some things about her ex-boyfriend that were nice to know.

(Dave Matthews, Say Goodbye.)

Saturday was great, spinning, a nice nap, and then Swing dancing at a church on Bloor with some more undergrad people. I am getting much better now! These lessons are paying off. Too bad ___ was in Ottawa hunting rabbits and missed it. I tried to teach my friend SCE (super climbing elitist) how to do the basic steps, but he was having a horribly hard time. I've never seen him think so hard about something as when he was trying the steps. Hopefully he'll see it as a challenge and try and pick it up a bit more.

Sunday I was supposed to go skiing. Then my friend Bike Freak called me up and told me the power was out in Collingwood, so we decided we weren't going, and I got used to the idea of a nice relaxing day at home. Then he called me up again, and told me it was on again, at about 3 pm. GAH! I was so comfortable and warm at home, but I'm glad I went anyway because the conditions were amazing, even with my unwaxed skis. The moguls were awesome! Not only that, everyone else was inside watching the stupid Super Bowl, so the lift lines were non-existent.

While shopping yesterday in Kensington market with my dad, and wondering aloud on what's going on with a building that is under construction there, a bike courrier dude who was obviously bored and wanted to chat told us that it was being converted to condos, which is why he was about to move out of the area. We also found out a bit more about the little kaffuffle that occurred last week between a courier and a driver in the market. There was an article about it in the Toronto Star, where they apparently (I haven't read the article in the Star) failed to mention the about $300 worth of damage to the courrier's wheel after the driver stomped on it, which is pretty big compared to the superficial scratch suffered by accident to his car while he was attacking her. They also failed to mention that she has a couple of kids to look after, and that on a courrier's wages, $300 is a couple days of work. It's hard to believe that no charges were laid against this road raged driver, apparently because they'd also have to charge the courrier with mischief. I don't know how the cops could possibly have seen the accidental scratch as mischief compared to the busted wheel. However, I don't think the driver was treated too gently by the other people in the market after they pulled him off her.

Crazy world. Why can't we all just live in peace and harmony? ha.
(and finally, Foo Fighters - See You)
