More political comments

I just read a couple more articles about the Emerson Defection, and two things occurred to me. First of all, not only is this a betrayal of his own constituents for his own personal gain, but it is also an indication that the democratic process in this country is messed up. This move can only discourage young voters, especially in his riding but probably across the country, from going to vote, since it may seem like it doesn't really matter who they elect anyway! ARGH.

The second point I thought of is that maybe this is good for the Liberals in the future, in the sense that the Conservatives have immediately started going against their promises on their first day in office. They promised to create an elected senate, and to implement some ethics laws (or something) preventing defections of the sort we've seen in the last two years (Stronach, Emerson). Harper appointed a non-elected politician to the Senate, just so he could put him in cabinet, and lured a new Liberal MP across the floor. Great move Harper! Way to show us that you're not really what you said you were in your election campaign! With any luck you will screw up even more in the next six months and alienate most of the population of Canada, and we can have you out of there in less than two years!

This really is a great thing for the NDP. Liberals can't be trusted, and now neither can the Conservatives. So far the NDP are the only ones that haven't screwed up big time.
